Oppo A78 Review

The Oppo A78 will not impress you at first sight. When you open the box and look at both the front and back, it may seem like just another ordinary pocket-friendly smartphone. But as you explore its features, you’ll realize that it’s a budget-friendly device. And when you start using it, you’ll see that it offers great value for the money.

This phone has some innovative ideas that set it apart from the rest. It’s competitive enough to shine among other smartphones. However, before making any decisions, let’s take a closer look at its specs and analyze them together. Ready to dive in?

Design

The Oppo A78 has a design that looks like many other budget smartphones we’ve seen in recent years. It’s like a flat chocolate bar with stylish angled corners.

It measures 163.8×75.2x8mm, so if your hand is smaller than that, it might feel a bit big. But at 188g, it’s not too heavy.

The glossy rear finish is better quality than the plastic finishes on other smartphones. It gives the phone a dynamic and vibrant look, especially with the main cameras breaking up the design.

The phone’s corners look pretty standard, and at the bottom of the screen, you’ll see two holes: one for the USB-C charging jack and the other for the headphone jack. On the side, the volume buttons also double as a fingerprint scanner, which is very sensitive and surprisingly quick to unlock.

An impressive feature is the IP54 rating, which means you don’t have to worry about liquid splashes or dust getting on your screen.

Display

The Oppo A78 features a 6.56-inch LCD screen, perfect for gaming and watching videos online. Its screen resolution is HD+ with 720×1612 pixels, though some phones in this price range offer FHD+ screens. It has a 90Hz refresh rate, while others in the same price bracket offer 120Hz.

Even though the Oppo A78’s screen is large and vibrant enough to compete, if you prefer a smaller phone, this might not be the best choice for you. However, the screen brightness isn’t particularly impressive, standing at 600 nits.

Software

The Oppo A78 doesn’t come with the latest Android 13, but it’s equipped with Android 12. The Oppo Color OS, with its vibrant colors and stunning interface, adds to the appeal, especially when swiping down.

It’s interesting to note the preinstalled apps, including Google apps like Spotify and TikTok, as well as some games like Candy Crush and Lords. However, there are also some unwanted games included from day one.

Cameras

The Oppo A78 has a 50MP camera but it takes the worst photos. The quality is not at all good, it is full of noise and there is no sharpness at all. The resolution is that of the 12.5MP. It is paired with a 2MP camera. It may bring about some ease but at the same time, it will not be as good as others are.

The main camera offers some 108MP capability with Extra HD but still, it is a question mark as a whole. But it in a way is the replacement for the zoom function that is missing in this configuration. It gives you an opportunity for the close-up snaps without losing the quality of it.

Storage & Performance

The Oppo A78 comes with a 50MP camera, but unfortunately, it doesn’t take good photos. The quality is poor, with lots of noise and lack of sharpness. The resolution seems more like 12.5MP. It’s also paired with a 2MP camera, which might provide some convenience but isn’t as good as others.

While the main camera offers 108MP capability with Extra HD, overall, it’s still questionable. However, it serves as a substitute for the missing zoom function in this setup. It allows for close-up shots without sacrificing quality.

Battery

The Oppo A78 comes with a 5000 mAh battery, which is common in budget phones. It can last the whole day with heavy usage, but for average use, it might even last another day.

However, it’s equipped with a 33W charger, which is slower compared to a 67W charger. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait for more than an hour to get it fully charged.

Conclusion

The Oppo A78 is perfect for budget-conscious individuals who aren’t into photography but love gaming. Its battery life is above average, and the overall design is better than similar phones in its price range. However, people with small hands might find it uncomfortable to hold for extended periods.
