Apple just launched the iPhone 17 series, and the buzz for the next iPhone has already started! A new leak about the iPhone 18 has fans excited — it looks like Apple might shrink the Dynamic Island next year.
The leak comes from Instant Digital on Weibo, a source with a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple news.
What’s Changing?
Earlier rumors said Apple wouldn’t bring under-screen Face ID to the iPhone 18. Instead, the Dynamic Island — the little pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen — would just get smaller, not disappear completely. So don’t expect it to look like the tiny punch-hole cameras on Android phones just yet.
Now, this new leak backs up that claim.
It’s still early days, so take it with a grain of salt. Apple is currently busy launching the iPhone 17 series, which is available for pre-order until September 19.
What’s Coming in the Future?
There are rumors that by 2027, Apple will hide the Face ID and selfie camera under the screen completely. So the design might change step-by-step, starting with a smaller Dynamic Island in the iPhone 18.
What About the Chip?
Apple’s C2 chip for faster 5G didn’t make it into the iPhone 17 series. Right now, only the iPad Air has the new C1 Max chip, but it doesn’t support mmWave. Maybe we’ll see the C2 chip in the iPhone 17e or even the iPhone 18.
iPhone 17e: A Budget Option?
After the iPhone 17 global launch wraps up, Apple may release a cheaper iPhone 17e. It could come with:
